Meet the Maker
Hi there, thanks for stopping by! I’m Sarah Smith, owner and creator of Sarah Smith Silver.
I am a wife, mother, rancher and silversmith.
In the summer of 1989 after graduating early and seeing an ad for a silversmithing class, I headed up to Miller Bit and Spur in Nampa, Idaho to take my first class. I was hooked! I loved everything about silversmithing. I returned home and not long after met and married the love of my life Jack Smith, a saddle maker. We have two children, Nicole and Jared. We have built our life around our learned trades, ranch work and our family. I was lucky enough to home school our kids, and we were very active in 4-H, showing cattle and market goats. Now that the kids are older, I have more time to focus on my silver work and our recently purchased laser engraving machine.
My husband Jack, owns and operates Granite Station Saddlery in Bakersfield, CA. My daughter and son both work on our six-generation cow calf operation along with my Mom, Dad, my sister and her husband. I am so proud of my family and how hard they work to feed America!
In 1992 or 93 I was blessed to attend one of Jeremiah Watt’s very first engraving classes in Elko, Nevada. Over the years I developed my own style and, in the summers of 2018, and 2019 I had an opportunity to study under Diane Scalese. In 2021, I had the pleasure of studying under Earnie Marsh. Along the way, I had several local goldsmiths help with projects I was troubled with. I think you are never too old to learn and improve on yourself and look forward to taking more classes from master artisans in 2023 and beyond.
My life is crazy busy 99% of the time, but I wouldn’t change it for the world.
I hope you enjoy seeing what I love to do.
Thank you.
Sarah Smith
